Got the Tokina 17mm for a Canon 350 Rebel and they don't work well together -
Unless aperture is set to 3.5 the camera refuses to save the image -'Error 99'
which means 'incompatible lens'. Also problems with dark viewfinder and autofocus not working. Maybe (hopefully) this particular lens specimen was defective...
Unfortunately I was in a hurry to go abroad so i exchanged it for a Canon 20mm/f2.8 and won't find out until someone else tries this combination. So, if you're buying online, perhaps ask that the store does a check for you. Now that i said that, maybe i'll call them and do the same :))

After buying the Nikon D-100 I needed a great grand angular to sobstitut my Nikkor 24mm. 2.8. My expirience with Tokina has been very positive with the 300mm 2.8 so I decided to inform my self about the 17mm. I realy can't tell anything about it over convencional film since I hardly have used it with a convencional camera, however, with the D-100 it has an extreemly good performance, perfect saturation, contrast and definition in any of it's f-stops, it's focus is fast since it is a great grand-angular and it looks strong with it's metal body. Once it fel with the D-100 on the floor at more or less 50cm hight and I only had to change the filter (After almost having a hart attack ;-)). And the best of it is it's price. In other words, a five star for digital photographers... about convencional film I leave the coments to others.
